Awesome lesson plan here Johnny, will retw-- I mean share broadly...

Also, John E., re your point about Facebook there is a fundamental difference in these two networks which, I think, will either from "winning". Reason being - and I don't remember who said this first but - Facebook is a cool place to hang out with the people you already know. FriendFeed is a great place to discover and hang out with new peeps.

Allow me to play the devil's advocate for a minute.

I think that there is one service that has the potential to replace FriendFeed, and that is Facebook. Even before they acquired FriendFeed's people, Facebook began to implement FriendFeed items such as comments and likes. Facebook recently introduced the "News Feed," or their method of identifying the top items in a lifestream. If Facebook implemented multiple streams per user (and they sort of do today), then the only real difference between FriendFeed and Facebook would be that FriendFeed users can be anonymous, while Facebook frowns on that practice.

And for those who note that the Facebook user base resists change and would reject any "FriendFeed-like" advances, don't forget that the FriendFeed user base also resists change...at least at first. (Remember the outcry when live feeds were introduced to FriendFeed?)

Plus, Facebook has a monetization plan, something that FriendFeed never got around to implementing.

Now I'm not saying that I've already fled FriendFeed - it still provides value for me today. But if the day comes that FriendFeed is shut off, or becomes unusable for some other reason, there are alternatives out there.

Perfect post, Johnny! You've captured everything great about FF - I think I need to post a link to this on Facebook now. No point in just us reveling in the goodness now, is there?

Johnny, I don't see a Creative Commons license or any kind of copyright on your site... just wondering what you thought about my re-posting (in it's entirety) on my blog... If I had to guess I would figure that it would be okay with you as long as I gave you credit (and a link probably too) which is of course not a problem at all.

It's just that you've been writing what I've been thinking and feeling... and articulating it much better as well.
