HEY, FOOL! You’re Behind On Your Social Media!
<rant>
This may be nitpicking… But… for me social media is something I dip into to spend time and communicate with friends. I have no requrements, I have no tasks and I have no pressures.
So why does Google Buzz insist on telling me how far behind I am with social media? That’s what I didn’t like about Google Reader. It’s what I hate about email. It gives the impression that I have to catch up or that I am falling behind the pack.
The ‘100+’ just shits me cause it like saying ‘gawd, you’ve got some work to do buddy’.
The thing that really shits me is as soon as I click on the Buzz link, that number dissapears, so it’s not even a read/unread counter.
This is where the smushing of social media and email are a mess for me.
I don’t do Inbox Zero… I don’t want Social Media Zero… I don’t pity tha fools…

You are being conditioned to click on the Buzz to make the nasty number go away. Eventually, you will be clicking on the Buzz in your sleep. THAT’S when Google will unveil its super-secret monetization program – well, after it’s made sure that you’ve entered your credit card numbers on your Google Profile.

Yep, I totally agree. The Buzz counter was one of the first things I noticed when I started using Buzz. It really makes you feel like you are behind before you even start each day. Maybe that’s what Google wants, for you to feel the need to stick around on Buzz longer. It certainly works that way with Google Reader. Now I think I need to go clean house in my RSS feed so it doesn’t feel like such a ball and chain….
