Under The Covers With My Paul Dempsey Fantasy

without comments

Something For Kate has always been a band cemented in my play list. Not only do they rock hard but their front man, Paul Dempsey, has a brain on him the size of a bass drum. His lyrics, often cryptic at first, weave a rich tapestry sadly lacking in today’s music.

Not only that, the man does a mean cover. Quite often the cover versions included as b-sides are the highlights of the album. Something For Kate has covered artists the likes of David Bowe, George Michael, Bruce Springsteen and even Christina Aguilera, each one a masterpiece.

After seeing him do a cover of George Michael’s Careless Whispers, a little idea popped into my head that just wont go away…

“If you could pick one artist to do an album of covers, who would it be and what is the track list?”

So I present to you my Something For Kate Covers Album:

  • Throw Your Arms Around Me (Hunters & Collectors)
  • To Be With You (Mr Big)
  • Born To Run (Bruce Springsteen)
  • Living Type (Powderfinger)
  • Catapult (Counting Crows)
  • Even When I’m Sleeping (Leonardo’s Bride)
  • Careless Whispers (George Michael)
  • Better Man (Pearl Jam)
  • Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker’s interpretation)
  • One Crowded Hour (Augie March)
  • Harpoon (Jebediah)
  • Blowin’ in the Wind (Bob Dylan)
  • Baton Rouge (Garth Brooks)
  • Maggie May (Rod Stewart)
  • Rockin’ in the Free World (Neil Young)
  • Please Bleed (Ben Harper)

What’s yours?
